About the college

Education that incorporates language and culture is what the Monterey Institute of International Studies, or MIIS, was founded upon. The school was established in 1955 with the name Monterey Institute of Foreign Studies. Six years later the school may its journey to its current location in downtown Monterey and adopted the name that is so well known today. The school today is dedicated to hands on experience with its “Monterey Way” style of learning in more than one language with education that includes critical thinking skills and problem solving.

Campus

The MIIS campus in Monterey, California has a close location to downtown Monterey. It is within walking distance for students. The campus is located on the Monterey Peninsula close to the cities of San Francisco and Los Angeles. In Monterey, students are offered local attractions as the city aquarium and jazz festival. Activities at the campus stretch beyond the student clubs with students biking and walking to class each day.

Courses

At MIIS, students can choose from programs that lead to master’s degrees and also language and short term programs. Students can earn master’s degrees in international policy studies, international environmental policy, translation/interpretation, conference interpretation, translation and localization management. Language programs include English programs, custom language services and English fro diplomats. The short term programs offered train students in global trade and development, teacher training, language teaching certification and conservation leadership programs.

While attending classes at MIIS students can prepare themselves for a future full of possibilities. Graduates become part of the community and the changes that will help make the world better and answer the questions that face all of us. With MIIS, critical thinking and problem solving skills can lead to futures with life long career choices.
