About the College

Out of the 110 community colleges in California, College of the desert is a critical part of the education system. With over 2.5 million students each year the California Community College system has its own governing district and out of the 72 statewide, College of the Desert has five elected members because it is the governing body of Desert Community College District. College of the Desert is a two-year college is for transfer students an alternative to start college and then transfer to a four-year foundation.

Campus

College of the Desert is located in Palm Desert, California and it offers a huge Street fair on the campus of the college. There are over 340 vendors offering merchandise, arts and crafts, and farmers market. They are open every weekend and have free parking, admission, and entertainment. This is one reason to go to this college! College of the Desert does not have on campus housing and no meals. There are many student apartments just off campus that are not affiliated with the college. Host Families around the area will host a student for $600 a month for room and board and $400 room only. Check with the Housing Coordinator and they will assist you in find a Host family or an apartment.

Courses

College of the Desert students mainly study in liberal arts and therapy counseling. College of the Desert offers Associate degrees which in 2007, 532 were handed out and 1-2 year certificates, 73 were handed out and 63-1 year certificates were handed out. There is 129 teachers in total for full time either with or without tenure. The tuition is low cost but with high educational offerings at $594 for State and $5,137, Out of State Cost and the books and supplies average $1,425. Financial aid is available for students to apply for.
