About the College

The people of Humboldt County issued a bond of $3,600,000 for construction of The Redwoods Community College District and in May 1964 College of the Redwoods started instruction. This two-year college has two satellite campuses and four off campus sites. There is 334 acres with more then 15,000 students enrolled every year. There are many clubs and organizations available to join.

Campus

College of the Redwoods is one of the 11 colleges to offer on campus housing. 160 students occupy two renovated buildings located on the edge of the Redwood Forest! Each room comes with a bed, dresser, desk, a vanity sink and mirror unit and a large closet. They receive basic cable TV and internet. There are phone jacks but you have to pay for phone service. There is a residence hall with recreation including games, swimming pool, pool tables weight room, computer labs (on campus residents only). Laundry with vending machines is in each building. If you want off campus fun, there is a mall and beaches and 35 minutes south you can go see the famous redwood Grove “Avenue of the Giants”. Meals are required to be purchased by every student who lives in Residence hall. There are many different cuisines for each different taste.

Courses

The main studies are liberal arts, security, and law enforcement and production trades among the several thousand courses offered. They have given 409 Associate degrees, 167- 1-2 year certificates, 1-year certificate-49, and 2-4 year degrees-4. There are 80 full time teachers with tenure and 13 without working towards it. The tuition for College of the Redwoods is very low cost compared to many other schools making it easier to get your education you desire. Financial aid is available to students who want to apply for help.
