About the college
Foothill College scans 122 acres. Many people say this is one of the most beautiful schools they have seen. The design of the school won an award in 1962 by American Institute of Architects and an Award of merit in 1963 as well as a Special Commendation Design Award in 1980 from Progressive Architecture magazine. They said (quote) “excellence in design that has stood the test of time.” (Unquote) Pictures cannot show the true beauty of this school, you have to see it in person. There are many activities for students which include Observatory, Bamboo Garden and Asmara Meditation Pavilion, Swimming Pool, Football Stadium just to name a few.
About the campus
The beautiful gardens have seating so you can sit and study, read a book or just watch the water shows. The many trees provide plenty of shade to get out of the hot sun. You can enjoy the art work with the many statues that grace the gardens. The Bamboo Garden started out with six Phyllostachys nigra bamboo plants that were planted in 1989 and has grown to over 70 varieties that cover 2 acres of land. Campus parking is 2.00 in quarters otherwise it is free. There is no on campus housing but student services will help you find an apartment in the area in some of the student houses that have formed over the years.
About the courses
Students come to Foothill to study some of the popular courses which include Production trades, hospitality, drama and performing arts, construction, computer science, engineering, and music just to name a few. The teachers on staff include 164 with tenure and 42 without working towards it. Student enrollment in 2007 was 18,132 with 9,016 being full time students. All of the students are from the USA in the freshman class alone.
