About the College
Lake Tahoe Community College is set in the heart of Lake Tahoe and is 6,229 ft above sea level making it the highest college in California. It opened its doors in 1975 and it was in a converted motel on Highway 50 and at that time full time students never paid tuition. Then they acquired the 164 acres from Shell Corporation and Lake Tahoe College was formed and now about 4,000 students come through its doors each quarter.
About the campus
It has 164 acres that have a huge theatre with 192 seats. It has an art lab and a demonstration garden. The gymnasium is 26,000 sq ft and has a fitness center and dance studio and a student center. The student center has a café, internet pods, and a teaching kitchen for the culinary arts program. LTCC is within minutes of skiing and has 14 resorts all around it. Summer time there is swimming, boating, hiking, camping and in Lake Tahoe, you will have 274 days of sunshine! Although they do not provide on campus housing, they do provide information on housing in the area. The do have meals on campus in their Kokanee café. They have a coffee cart for breakfast with pastries, bagels, and fruit and breakfast sandwiches. They offer pizza in the afternoon, with chili and soup of the day. The café offers lunch from 11:30-2pm. It has a self-serve salad/sandwich bar. The specials are listed.
Courses offered
Anthropology, Art, Business, Computer Applications/Office Technology, Criminal Justice, Culinary Arts, Early Childhood Education, English, and Fire science just to name a few. You can check out their website for more extensive list of what courses are offered. They also offer an onsite daycare and part time studies as well as studies abroad.
