About the college

San Francisco Theological Seminary, SFTS, prepares graduates of all backgrounds and races for leadership in Christian ministry and service to the entire community. SFTS is a part of the Graduate Theological Union and the Presbyterian Church. The goal is to serve God and bring his word into everyday life and education. The seminary takes its faith and extends that into local churches and institutions beyond the bay area.

Campus

The San Anselmo, California campus has a location that is surrounded by seminary involvement through the downtown’s local café, restaurants, galleries, shopping, and a winery. The campus has on site housing for students, weddings, receptions, conference meetings and sabbaticals. San Anselmo is a city where students can ride bikes around and through campus giving the students an opportunity to see the sites, like Mt. Tamaulipas and parks, on a bike. There is a Victorian quest house, the Baird Hall retreat house and a sabbatical housing center.

Courses

SFTS offers three-degree programs that can earn graduates a master of divinity degree, a master of theological arts degree, and a doctor of ministry degree. In addition, students can study for two diplomas in the art of spiritual direction and spiritual formation studies. A Master of Arts degree can be achieved for those who wish to teach and/or conduct research. Two doctor degrees include doctor of theology and doctor of philosophy.
