About the college

Santa Monica College is an affordable institution where students can get a unique educational experience with the John Drescher Planetarium and the Academy of Entertainment and Technology, which can lead graduates into the glitz and glam of Hollywood. The college opened its doors for the first time in 1929 and today is a leader within the 109 community colleges in California for college transfers to 4-year universities around the state. At Santa Monica College, SMC, your studies can begin here and lead you to many different places.

Campus

Fittingly SMC is located in the city of Santa Monica. The 38-acre campus is within miles of the Santa Monica beach with beautiful views and a city full of outdoor activities and restaurants, shopping, museums and other forms of entertainment for students to enjoy. The campus offers an architecturally interesting library, theatre arts building, classrooms, computer labs, student clubs and athletic programs.

Courses

At SMC, students are offered departments that focus on various fields of study. Students can choose from art, business, chemistry, design technology, and English as a Second Language course, life sciences, physics and other programs that prepare students for their future careers. SMC also offers online courses, an arts mentor program, community education, a first year institute, high school programs, honors program and a teacher academy. There are other specialty programs for students at SMC showing that the college has something for everyone and their educational pathway.

With the Santa Monica beach as your backdrop and the extensive list of programs to choose from it is easy to see why so many choose SMC as their start to higher education. The college is also quite affordable and offers an opportunity to transfer if that is where your education takes you.
