Colleges In Mendocino County

The north coast of the state of California is where Mendocino County is located. The county can easily be found north of the San Francisco Bay Area and the Central Valley is to the west. Ukiah is the county seat of Mendocino County.

Just like a few other counties in California Mendocino County was part of the original lineup of counties when California entered into statehood. This event occurred in 1850. It was not until 1859 that the county actually had a government. Its population was too small for one at first and so it was formerly under the administration of another county, Sonoma. Mendocino got its name from Cape Mendocino.

Mendocino County has a list of towns and cities. They include Anchor Bay, Caspar, Inglehook, Little River, Old Hopland, Pine Grove and Rockport. The county is known for a variety of things that each city or town has to offer. That includes its coastline off of the Pacific Ocean, wine production, Redwood Forests and liberal views on marijuana use.

With its liberal views on marihuana, use it only seemed fitting that it would became a part of the politics in Mendocino County. It was the year 2000 Measure G was passed. It made small amounts of marijuana use devoid of criminal activity. People could use it, but not transport, grow or sell it. Mendicancy County was the first county to pass such a law.

Visitors and residents can enjoy a variety of things in Mendocino County. Wine production gives you wine tours and tasting events to pass the time on vacation. There are rivers for boating, white water rafting or sitting back and taking in all the scenery. The rivers located here include Elk, Navarro, Noyo, and Ten Mile. Van Damme, Seaside, Portuguese and Greenwood are all beaches in Mendocino. Spend a day of fun in the sun at any one of them.

There are several parks, campgrounds and recreation areas for families to enjoy too. Mendocino County is not just all about having fun outdoors. They offer the chance to obtain a college education and enjoy all of this on the weekends. In Fort Brag, there is College of the Redwoods, which is a satellite campus. Mendocino College in Ukiah is a 2 year community college.

A railroad known as Skunk Train connects Fort Bragg with Willits with steam trains and other vehicles. This is a local attraction that is both neat to see, but also carries a bit of history with it.

The government in Mendocino County is run by a board of 5 districts with Tom Mitchell as the Chief Executive Officer. The county is strongly democratic with the last Republican to make the county switch sides happening in the years 1980 and 1984. The man was Ronald Reagan.

Mendocino County is the ideal vacation spot for lying in the sun on the beach or hiking on a nature trail. In addition, you have the great state of California all around and that is a vacation in itself.
