Colleges In San Francisco County

San Francisco city and county is known for many things. They both carry a liberal status, especially when it comes to gay rights and the local parade for that sexual orientation. There are landmarks that are unmistakable to the eye here too. That includes the Golden Gate Bridge and Chinatown. Even seeing cable cars make you think of San Francisco.

The county and city are quite popular. That makes them the fourth largest in California and 12 largest across the US. The territory for San Francisco was inhabited 3,000 years ago. Through the years there was an earthquake in 1906, the stock market crash and the use of Alcatraz as a prison that housed Al Capone. During this time San Francisco stood against the pressures and constructed two bridges during a time when there was nothing.

The World’s Fair and art galleries and museums have long since been a part of the culture of San Francisco. In addition, you have to notice how several islands are part of the city. The San Francisco Peninsula is a notable feature and the Pacific Ocean is close for those long days at the beach. Another iconic feature of San Francisco is the hills and the fault lines that feature minor earthquakes on a regular basis.

In San Francisco there are several places to visit and enjoy. The historic center includes the Financial District. Fisherman’s Wharf is also place for great food including Dungeness Crab. Expensive boutiques can be found at Haight-Ashbury. The Castro is where the gay culture comes alive in San Francisco County.

Beaches and parks will have you spending your days outdoors. Golden Gate National Recreational Area, Ocean Beach and the San Francisco Maritime National Historical park are all places that need and should be a part of your vacation itinerary. Golden Gate Park is the largest and best known park in the area. San Francisco Zoo is great for the kiddos and Candlestick Point was built as the first urban recreation area in the state of California.

San Francisco is a great city and county for residents to walk to get where they are going. Neighborhoods are full of restaurants, boutiques, shopping at Union Square and other venues that can be easily reached on foot. There is an annual Chinese New Year Parade that shows the diversity of the city. Green politics are also popular in San Francisco city and county making the place full of culture around every corner.

Entertainment in San Francisco is abundant. There is the War Memorial and Performing Arts Center for shows and opera events. The Fillmore is a venue for live music performances. First time performances from bands like the Grateful Dead and singer Janis Joplin used this venue to jam out. Beach Blanket Babylon is a music revue that has been selling out shows since 1974.

What would San Francisco be without sports? Let’s not even go there. The football team the San Francisco 49ers are from the area. You have the San Francisco Giants running for touchdowns too. San Francisco is also great for biking, skateboarding and windsurfing. Having the beaches around are great too for various outdoor sports and recreational activities.

The TV commercial used to tell us that Rice-a-Roni was the San Francisco Treat. That jingle would stick in your head for days. Tony Bennett also sang about “leaving his heart in San Francisco”.

Not that you are singing how about taking at a class at one of the local colleges or universities in San Francisco? The University of California-an Francisco can help you focus on health courses. The City College of San Francisco is one of the largest 2 year community colleges located here. The San Francisco Art Institute and the California Culinary Academy also can help you realize your potential in the city.

San Francisco is home to many including stars like Robin Williams, Danny Glover and numerous bands. Your days in the city can be filled with biking tours and tanning on several different beaches. The family can hang out at a Giants game or you can go walking to your favorite hangout while whistling the Rice-a-Roni theme the whole way. Watch out for the cable cars though.
