Colleges In San Luis Obispo County

San Luis Obispo County has a great location it the state of California. Travel down to the Pacific Ocean and in the Central Coast of the state you will find San Luis Obispo. It is conveniently located between the cities of Los Angeles and the San Francisco Bay Area. The population for the county had reached 246,000 plus in 2000 and its county seat, San Luis Obispo, accounts for 46,000 of that total number.

San Luis Obispo County contributes its start to the Chumash people who were settled in the present day location of the county thousands of years before the present age. In 1772 a mission was founded called Mission San Luis Obispo de Tolosa and is now the site of the county that shares its name.

For the residents of San Luis it is nice to have the cities of San Francisco and LA close by. San Luis Obispo County is more rural than other California counties and is called, “The Central Coast”. Residents get the best of both worlds. They live in place where agriculture is a vital part of the county’s success, but have the hustle and bustle of big cities near by.

The mission is still an active part of downtown, or SLO Town as it is referred to as. Living in San Luis gives you communities that are near beaches, coastal hill and mountains. The communities are small in size, but not in activity. They offer fishing, agriculture and tourist events for all ages. There is something to do everyday of the year even if it is just a brisk walk around the neighborhood.

The towns and cities of San Luis Obispo County all seem to have a story of their own. Harmony is the one of the smallest towns in the entire state of California. There are 18 residents. San Simeon has a location that is famous. It sits at the foot of a hill where the newspaper publisher William Randolph Hearst built Hearst Castle.

There are several coastal towns in San Luis Obispo County. Cambria, Morro Bay, and Cayucos are to the north of San Luis Obispo City, Oceano, and Grover Beach are located to the south. Inland you will find Templeton, which is near the Paso Robles wine region.

San Luis is a predominately Republican county, however Barack Obama won over the county in 2008. The last democrat to win was way back in 1964. That man was Lyndon B. Johnson.

Visiting San Luis provides many with various outdoor activities. You can play golf or go hiking. Cal Poly is a college that offers continuing education programs for adults and first time students alike. Cuesta College offers classes that range from a variety of topics like hobbies and career training. County parks are the best way for families to do weekend activities like camping and nature walks or students can volunteer or take a walk with their IPOD's.

San Luis Obispo County is a great place to visit, but an even better place to call home.
