Colleges In Solano County

Solano County can date its history back thousands of years ago. The county was named for Father Francisco Solano. His name was used for the leader of the Indian tribe that inhabited the area that would eventually be known as Solano County. When that leader was baptized, the name was passed on.

Solano was one of the original counties that were established at the same time as California’s statehood. The county is also one of 9 that are located along the San Francisco Bay Area. The county seat of Solano is Fairfield and the county population is close to reaching over 400,000. Its largest city is Vallejo.

With its location halfway between Sacramento and San Francisco, visitors and residents get a mix of rural and suburban life. Take a trip to the bay area or the Lake Tahoe region for year outdoor activities that include boating, fishing, hiking, and skiing. In addition, Solano County is close enough for trips to Napa Valley or Sonoma Valley for wine tasting and wine tours.

Living in Solano can provide opportunities for growth, both in education and employment. Solano Community College has four campus locations throughout the county and the California Maritime Academy is also located here. Saint Mary’s College of Extended Education and several adult education schools also call Solano County home.

Solano is an agricultural county. The schools there offer education for a promising career in the field. Corporate businesses and employment is also abundant in Solano County so the jobs are plentiful. The county has limited development outside of the cities so there is room for open space, agricultural business, and careers in biotechnology.

Entertainment is not a lost art in Solano. Actually, it is celebrated in numerous venues. There is the Empress or Harbor Theatres to visit. Solano College offers theatre courses to turn your passion for performing into something more. The Vallejo Symphony can also be a part of your evening. There is a candy festival in the cities of Fairfield and Suisun. Holiday Park is a nice event for the whole family to enjoy too.

Visiting Solano County can be a great addition to a weekend trip. There are several art galleries, like the Fairfield Center for Creative Arts that can give your imagination a spark. Farm stands and farmer’s markets provide locally grown produce for visitors and residents. The Benicia Glass Studios and The Clay Station can bring out your creative side. Museums, libraries, and parks will have your vacation full of activities until you reach the very end.

Six Flags Discovery Kingdom is located in Vallejo and there are the local fairgrounds for annual carnival rides and delicious treats. For the adults there are wine tours and tasting rooms. You can also sample jelly beans, beer, oil, and vinegars on your trip to Solano County.
