About the College
When Solano College was established in 1945, it was known as Vallejo Junior College. It belonged to Vallejo Unified School District until 1967 when the college became an institution nationwide. The campus, which is 197 acres, was opened to 5000 students. The college is growing more each year so they are expanding to meet the needs. Solano is part of 109 campuses in 72 districts being part of the public community college system. Solano has night and day classes split evenly between the 12,000 students so you will see the school is bustling 24 hours a day!
About the campus
20 students, faculty, and campus leaders met one day to development a more enriching outdoor environment for the students. They wanted to improve shade areas, easier paths to find places, interesting places to visit, and just making it a more beautiful place. They came up with patios/terrace, lamp posts, double walkways, sculptures, green house/arboretum, more trees, weather station, bushes trimmed in different shapes and much more. Therefore, they are planning to do a lot of groundbreaking and improvements the next few years. Watch their progress online. Solano Community College has a Cafeteria that is right in the middle of the campus. They now serve Starbucks coffee. They serve food 5 days a week from 7:30am-8pm Mon-Thurs. Fri 7:30 am-2pm and during finals Fridays only until 2pm during fall and spring. Summer they are closed Fridays and then only open from 7:30am-2pm Mon-Thurs. Intersession they are only open from 7:30am-2pm everyday but Fridays. You will have to purchase parking permits if you plan to drive your own car. Otherwise, they have buses that run to the college.
