About the college
Hollywood is the place for film and creativity. While Columbia College has Hollywood in its title, it is not located there, but it gives students the education to put their movies out into the world and become the next generation’s next great director. At Columbia, students can showcase their creativity through directing, producing, screenwriting, cinematography, and editing/visual effects. They offer degrees that can have you working in television, movies, or their very own screenplay.
Columbia College has many locations in the state of California. One is in Tarzana and being in California gives students creativity from the landscape to the nightlife. Its close location to Universal City and Studio City gives students an insight to where the big movies are made through Warner Bros., MCA and others. The campus is located in an amazing 44,000 square foot building that was formerly Panavision Cameras. Everything about the campus exudes film and production. There are areas for pre production, production, postproduction, a TV studio, and even standing sets. A library and computer lab is also available to students.
Columbia offers a variety of courses ranging from general education, cinematography, directing, editing, and production to screenwriting, sound, television and video production and special project courses including a cinema internship. Students are offered full time and part time courses with degrees available. The degrees offered at the 4 year university are in film and television with bachelor’s degrees in fine arts/cinema and fine arts-cinema and television. The school also offers a 2-year associate’s degree in fine arts-cinema/television.
