About the college

Western Seminary has a rich history that dates all the way back to 1925 when the Portland Baptist Bible Institute was founded by a man by the name of Walter B. Hinson. One year later and talk began of a graduate level seminary where theological education would be taught. Work got underway, the bible institute was replaced, and the Western Seminary was born. The seminary has a strong commitment to Christian beliefs and values and those are both bestowed upon the student’s that pass through the doors.

Campus

The San Jose campus is located in Los Gatos, California. The campus is deeply rooted in technology and its location is surrounded by culture and diversity. The San Jose library has online journal articles, 6,000 library books and computers filled with Bible software. It really is a researcher’s dream library. The faculty at the campus is highly devoted to their faith and their student’s success.

Courses

At the Western Seminary, students can take courses in programs that lead to completion by degree, diploma or certificate. The seminary offers four Master of Arts degrees in biblical and theological studies, specialized ministry, marital and family therapy and master of divinity. Biblical and theological studies investigate the scriptures to gain a great understanding of theology. Specialized Ministry involves courses in the understanding of scripture, theology and spiritual formation. Marital and family therapy pairs theology with counseling for a clinical and biblical view.

Master of divinity is a pastoral training program at the seminary for those who seek full time ministry work. At the Western Seminary Christian, beliefs are deeply instilled in each student and in the end, the school produces leaders in local and global ministries, churches and in their own lives.
