The 1849 Gold Rush in the central and north eastern part of California lead to a lot of things. People today love gold because of the rush for it years ago and Placer County calls the location of that iconic event home. {Placer County is known as Gold County and is located in the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range. The county is conveniently located in the suburbs of Sacramento to Lake Tahoe and the border from Nevada.

The metropolitan area in Sacramento has grown and because of that Placer County has seen growth too. In the state of California it is one of the fastest growing counties and had a jump of almost 100,000 in its population from the year 2000-2008. That could be attributed to its closeness to the larger California cities and its love of nature.

The Nisenan Native Americans were the first inhabitants of where Placer County would call home. In came the gold rush and the peaceful living arrangements were interrupted. Three years after digging for gold is when Placer became a county. The county was named after the Spanish word for gravel or sand deposits that contained gold. Auburn became the county seat.

Placer County is a beautiful place to visit. Nature is one of its best attractions. There is the gold rush history for you to learn all about. You can take a ride down the American River, go hiking in the mountains, camp out at Lake Tahoe or just take a walk, breath in the mountain air and enjoy the sights.

Other things to do in Placer County include Cinco de Mayo events, sledding, visiting the county fair or the Auburn Symphony, going ice skating, hunting and fishing a all times during the year. There is fresh grown produce all year round, Christmas tree farms, bike trails and sailing on the fresh waters for family weekends and times when you just want to get away.

Placer County is the place to go for outdoor adventures of every kind. They have an activity for everyone with sledding and skiing in the wintertime and picnics, hiking and boating during the warmer months. If you love beaches, mountains, relaxing or extreme events then a visit to Placer County should be in your vacation plans.
